January 25, 2021

Last Monday of Jan. 2021 and another "all-new" program on Breaking The Tethers (listen here). This time, there was some Canadian material (Brian Buchanan, Cory Weeds, and David Restivo), lots of piano, lots of guitar, and two tracks from the recent Blue Note Re:imagined release. All nice stuff.

For next week's show, I think it'll be back to the usual format for BTT, with a mix of styles and dates. I'm not fully sure what will be played on this edition but it will be good (isn't it always?! 😀) Join me on Monday, February 1, 10-11 AM MT, at 90.9 FM or cjsw.com.

Thanks.

Andrew

January 18, 2021

2021 is a new year so I thought "let's do an all-new" episode of Breaking The Tethers. I haven't presented one of these for a while and the new material was starting to pile up (not necessarily a bad thing, of course). The result was a nice mix of aural treats though definitely leaning "out there". Fave track: "A wrinkle in time sets concentric circles reeling" by the Dave Mazurek Exploding Star Orchestra. Anything Dave Mazurek does is interesting and nifty and crazy and more. Take it all in here.

The next BTT program will be on Monday, January 25, from 10-11 am MT, at cjsw.com or 90.9 FM.  I've decided that this will also be an "all-new" show. Tune in for good sounds, as per usual.

Thanks

Andrew

January 11, 2021

It's been a busy week or so in my world so I'm doing some catch-up with the Jan. 11 edition of BTT (listen here). This was fun show, with lots of new material and a fair amount of Canadian content (Weeds, Tosoff, and Soul Stew). Only two older tracks, a solo piano piece by Keith Jarrett recorded in Budapest in 2016 ("Part IV") and "Blinks" by Roswell Rudd and Steve Lacy, a track I think I might have played on air when the record came out in 2007; no worries, time for a repeat, 14 years later! 😀

The next post will have some info on the Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 programs in the next post.

Thanks.

This was the first BTT show of 2021. Musically, I thought it went well; a nice mix, leaning a bit to the funky side. On the mic, things weren't so good; I was either very smooth or just tripping over my tongue or coughing. Apologies for the latter two. I'll have it more together for the next program.

On that note, please join me for 2021 show #2, on Monday, January 11, 10-11 am MT, 90.9 FM or cjsw.com.

And before I forget, here's the link to the Jan. 4 episode: bit.ly/3bogu1t

Thanks.
