I would say that this week's program was a favourite of mine (I like all of them, of course...). Here's why:
*Free jazz at the beginning and end, old and new ("Homage to Coltrane" by Noah Judson and "Sometimes" by the Lina Allemano 4).
*Yes go jazz! ("Siberian khatru" by Steve Howe).
*Some Pat Metheny ("Midwestern night's dream") from what is probably his best record, Bright size life. On the subject of Pat, he has a new record out; I hope to get my hands on this soon and will play a track or two on Breaking The Tethers.
*Some true Blue Note jazz, unreleased for over 60 years ("Hipsippy blues" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers).
*The Dave Brubeck Quartet covering the Stranglers' "Golden brown"... maybe 😏
To listen to all of this, go here.
Next week's program will be fun stuff, too (when is it not?!). Hang around with me for more good music on Monday, September 21, from 10-11 am, at 90.9 FM or cjsw.com.
Thanks.
Andrew
