September 27

Overall, just a nice, varied show this week. Recapping just a few of the genres, there was free jazz (Fourth World Quartet), percussion (Drumhand), solo guitar (Charlie Ballantine), organ jazz-rock (2B3), and First Nations sounds (Cochemea). Give it a listen: bit.ly/2WwKymq

Want to listen to the next program? On Monday, October 4, go to cjsw.com or 90.9 FM from 10 to 11 am MT.

Thanks.

September 20, 2021

Mostly brand new music this week, accompanied by a few trips into the early years of the 21st century. The middle part of the show featured a "spacey" section with several short (for jazz) tracks ("Bogs and silence" through "Spacelift"). I didn't fully plan this out; it mostly just materialized during the show and I think it worked well. You can check out the whole shebang here.

I'm hoping for another fun and interesting show next week. To find out, join me on Monday, September 27 from 10 to 11 am MT at 90.9 FM or cjsw.com.

Thanks.

Sometimes, shows come together nicely, flow together nicely, etc. I think this was one of those shows. It was a bit more out there than the previous week and there was no shortage of stylistic variation but it still came across as a complete whole. My fave two songs from the program: "Domiabra" by Noah Howard (it's always good to play some straight-up free jazz) and "Loser" by Dave McMurray (one of my top Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia songs sung by the great Bettye LaVette). And here's the show: bit.ly/3Ahoz1p

You know what to do next Monday, September 20, 10 to 11 am MT... Join me for the next Breaking The Tethers episode at cjsw.com or 90.9 FM!

Thanks,

Andrew

September 6, 2021

I decided to stick with newer material for this Labour Day episode of Breaking The Tethers. I say "newer" not "new" as the tracks played today were from 2021, both very recent and from earlier in the year, but also from 2018 and 2019. I think the show ended up being a success, if perhaps a little mellower than the usual fare on BTT.  Listen to it here.

I might do the same kind of show next week. On that note, you can join me to find out on Monday, September 13, 10 to 11 am MT, at cjsw.com or 90.9 FM (the usual place and time, yada, yada).

Thanks.

August 30, 2021

The last Monday in August (where did August go? July went by at a reasonable pace, I thought, but August was done in a zip!) I was away for this show (doing some camping) but Brennan Chaudhry, host of another fine CJSW show, The Prisoners Dilemma, filled in for me (again!). Brennan did his usual fine job; what a great tracklist! Many thanks to Brennan! Check it all out here.

For the first Monday in September, I'll be back behind the board, doing that music thing. Join me on Labour Day, September 6, from 10 to 11 am MT, at cjsw.com or 90.9 FM.

Thanks.

Andrew
