For me, the key tune played here was “India” by John Coltrane, from the complete Village Vanguard set. It’s an awesome track, melding west and east, and pointing a bit to Coltrane’s future directions. I’ve played a version of “India” from this collection before but I’m not sure if the one I played today was the same one in the past; there are four versions of “India” on the record.
