In 1961, Oliver Nelson released the classic album Blues and the abstract truth, perhaps most well-known for the track "Stolen moments". I very recently discovered that there is a sequel to this album, More blues and the abstract truth, from 1965. Interestingly, there is a tune called "Blues and the abstract truth" on More blues but not on the original record. This is in the long music tradition of having title tracks for one album appears on a different one e.g. Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the holy" song is on Physical graffiti, not on the Houses of the holy album; Queen's "Sheer heart attack" is on News of the world not on Sheer heart attack.
I will admit to being somewhat obsessed with Bill Evans' song "Time remembered". The version I played on Feb. 7 was a recent discovery for me and is a "full band" version as opposed to a jazz piano trio version, which is how Evans commonly played the tune. This fuller version is definitely interesting, adding extra elements that make the song sound more fulsome (not that it's anything less played in piano trio style).
You can listen to these two tracks and the rest of the show at bit.ly/3H2QdSj
Thanks.
