Most of the tracks in this edition of Breaking The Tethers leaned, slightly or heavily, into the avant or out-there side of jazz. I'm glad it came out this way; maybe I've been playing too much straight-ahead or mellow stuff recently? 😆 Actually, there
were a couple of more straight-ahead pieces featured today, "Brass rail" by OVK3 and "Timing is everything" by Eric Alexander. But they still pushed the sonic envelope a bit e.g. Alexander's tenor sax solo in "Timing is everything" got kinda skronky. You can listen to the whole program, skronky or not,
here.
BTT in May comes to an end next week, on Monday, May 27. Join me for the show that day from 10 to 11 am MT at
cjsw.com or 90.9 FM.
Thanks.
