December 2, 2024

On the Breaking The Tethers page on the CJSW site, I noted that this program bounces back and forth between crazy and “normal” (not that I play too much “normal” on the show), which is correct. It resulted in a fine episode, maybe one of the top ever. Here are some of my faves from this week:

“Dancing in the loft” by John Surman and Howard Moody from Rain on the window. This record reminds me of me of Ghandharva, by Beaver & Krause, which features Gerry Mulligan on the baritone sax, which John Surman also plays.

“Chitlins con carne” by Ben Paterson from Cookin’ in the couve. Always good to have some soul jazz on the menu.

“Untitled” by Greg Kelly from Trumpet. You too can make your trumpet sound like nothing like a trumpet.

“Free form suite, 2nd movement” by Masayuki Takaynuki from Free form suite. Might as well end things with some straight-up free jazz.

Breaking The Tethers dives deeper into November on Monday, December 9, from 10 to 11 am MT, at cjsw.com or 90.9 FM.  Please hang with me then.

Thanks.

Andrew
