OK, I got my hands on an April 1 list. One week late (sorry), here are tracks I played:
"Changes" - Gerry Hebert Quartet (The Beat Niq sessions volume 2: constructive interference)
"Ecstatic little porpoises" - Jacob Varmus (All the things we can still can be)
"Birds of a feather" - Caribbean Jazz Project Featuring Dave Samuels (Afro bop alliance)
"Blues for C. Piff" - Sabertooth (Dr. Midnight: live at the Green Mill)
"Folk players" - Spring Heel Jack (Songs & themes)
"Cherokee" - Jacky Terrasson (Mirror)
"Her smile" - Gilad Atzmon (Refuge)
"Alien blueprints" - The Chris Tarry Group (Almost certainly dreaming)
"Four folk songs" - Ben Allison & Man Sized Safe (Little things run the world)
"Evenrude-fifty (trembling)" - Brian Blade Fellowship (Perceptual)
"Spectacular" - Campbell Ryga (Spectacular)
"Pharoah's revenge part 2" - The Roy Campbell Ensemble (Akhenaten suite)
"Forgotten world" - Tigran Hamasyan Trio (New era)
"Seven steps to heaven" - The Matt Savage Trio (Hot ticket)
"Mugshot" - Russell Malone (Live at Jazz Standard volume two)
"Sonic ecosystem" - Rob Brown Ensemble (Crown trunk root funk)
"Tragic interrruption" - Mem3 (Pennsylvania grey)
"No mystery" - Chick Corea & Gary Burton (The new crystal silence)
"A good move" - Moutin Reunion Quartet (Sharp turns)
"Sensei-tions" - Andy Milne (Solo piano)
Lots of new stuff here, both recently released and hot off the press. Falling into the "cool new stuff" category are "Pharoah's revenge part 2" by The Roy Campbell Ensemble (featuring great violin by Billy Bang), "Four folk songs" by Ben Allison, and "Folk players" by Spring Heel Jack. Also great, at least in the last section, was the track by the Brian Blade Fellowship; it's not often that you hear pedal steel played in a jazz (ish) context. The cool title award goes to "Alien blueprints" by the Juno award-winning Chris Tarry Group.
