September 2, 2009

This was a showfill for the Wednesday morning jazz program on CJSW, The Morning After:

"Db's blues" - Jason Kenemy's UpSideDownTown (Jason Kenemy's upsidedowntown)
"Far away" - Freddie Hubbard (Breaking point)
"Lonely woman" - Marzette Watts Ensemble (Marzette Watts Ensemble)
"Contusion waltz" - Bob Shimizu & Signal Strength (Cuchillero)
"Constellation " - Sun Ra Quartet (Other voices, other blues)
"Nayzak" - Anouar Brahem (Conte de l'incroyable amour)
"Yia yia k." - George Kofogiannakis (Generations: greek oud jazz)
"Salute to the bandstand" - Andrew Scott Quartet meets Jon-Erik Kellso & Don Block (Nostalgia)
"Soft metal tongue" - Looping Jaw Harp Orchestra (Elephant road)
"Okonkole y trompa" - Jaco Pastorius (Jaco Pastorius)
"Uptown afterburn" - Benny Golson (New time, new 'tet)
"Iola" - Ronald Shannon Jackson and the Decoding Society (Man dance)
"Goderich" - Michael Herring's Vertigo featuring David Binney - "Dark materials"
"Giant child within us - ego" - George Duke (I love the blues, she heard my cry)
"Part four" - Pat Metheny (Zero tolerance for silence)
"Colors of mime" - "'23'" (Always the sun)
"Kota" - Medeski, Martin, & Wood (Radiolarians III)
"Morning bell" - Chris Potter (Underground)
"Little sonny" - Sonny Clark (My conception)
"The traveler" - Air (80 degrees below '82)
"Ratio" - Nicholas D'amato's Royal Society (Nullius in verba)

Despite the fact that I tripped over my tongue and the board a bit too much for my likely, I found this show satisfying, at least from a musical perspective. I thought the tracks fitted together particularly nicely today. Some high points: "Kota" by Medeski, Martin, & Wood (new MMW - yay! Radiolarians III! 3rd CD in this series in less than a year! Will there be a Radiolarians IV?) and the crazy "Soft metal tongue" by Looping Jaw Harp Orchestra.

Only one program for me next week, Breaking The Tethers on Tuesday, September 8.
