"The long view: postlude" - Marty Ehrlich (The long view)

Another not too bad show, with plenty of piano and some performers I'd never played before (or, in some cases, even heard of before I pulled the CD from the shelf in the CJSW library). Top tune o' the day has to be "Four folk songs" by Ben Allison; great arrangement, fantastic melody played by the trumpet, possibly my fave jazz track released last year.

I love your show, and appreciate your blog.

I've been meaning to ask, do you program the 3 hours into seperate themes? It always seems the last hour, the final hour, part 3, etc. is always my favorite. "Chant Poo" and "I adore you" a case in point.

Keep it up anyway, another great show.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Generally speaking, I don't separate the show into three themes. I do try to keep tabs on the types of tunes played and vary them over the 180 minutes. The first hour is sometimes mellower than the other two but that seems to be changing. I sometimes play tracks at certain times when I know that a regular listener who likes a particular tune or performer or type of jazz might be listening. That's about it, at least consciously. My subconscious might be arranging the shows in certain ways...
