December 30, 2008

I am very late in posting this; the next show, the first of the new year, is tomorrow. Apologies for my tardiness.

"Elevation" - Chris Davis (A night remembered)
"Convergence (kinsmen)" - Rudresh Mahanthappa (Kinsmen)
"Mickey's tune" - Lee Morgan (The sixth sense)
"Dodge the dodo" - Ulf Wakenius (Love is real)
"Jitterbug waltz" - Anat Cohen (Notes from the village)
"Nossos momentos" - Rosa Passos (Romance)
"Oriente" - Galerie Stratique (Faux world)
"The 7th day" - Freddie Hubbard (The artistry of Freddie Hubbard)
"Assemblage" - Gunter Hampel Group (Music from Europe)
"A joyful noise" - The Phil Norman Tentet ("Totally" live at Catalina Jazz Club)
"AOS" - Yoko Ono (Plastic Ono Band)
"Sweet Sue" - The Bow Djangos (Hot! Swing & gypsy jazz!)
"Mania mienia" - Pat Metheny & Anna Maria Jopek (Upojenie)
"Threads" - The Royal Hartigan Ensemble (Blood drum spirit: live in China)
"772" - Alan Sondheim (Ritual-all-7-70)
"Integration" - Amancio D'Silva (Jazz for meditation)
"Stiletto" - Franco Ambrosetti (The wind)
"Como um rio" - Rabih Abou-Khalil (Em portugues)
"Walking woman" - Paul Bley Quintet (Barrage)
"Humoresque" - Art Tatum (Piano starts here: live at the Shrine)

This was a wide and varied set, from a Django-inspired tune to Yoko Ono with Ornette Coleman. The special feature this week was on Freddie Hubbard, who passed away on December 29. I only played one Hubbard track, from his well-known Impulse album, The Artistry Of Freddie Hubbard, but I'll play more in the weeks and months to come.
